A Brief Message from the Candidate

*BREAKING NEWS*

FORMER SGA PRESIDENT BOBBY JOE SMITH III HAS SIGNED ON AS NICK’S CHIEF OF STAFF (SECOND IN COMMAND) IF NICK IS ELECTED PRESIDENT. TOGETHER THEY PLAN TO IMPLEMENT A REALISTIC PLATFORM THAT COMBINES THE BEST OF BOTH CHANGE AND EXPERIENCE.

VOTE FOR NICK ALEXANDER TOMORROW TO BRING THIS TEAM INTO OFFICE.

Hi Middkids!

Thank you for visiting my campaign website. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Nick Alexander, and I’m a rising senior and a double major in history and political science at Middlebury. I’m making a bid for the SGA Presidency while studying abroad at Oxford University for the year.

Middlebury has fallen upon hard times. The recession has forced the administration to make significant budgetary cuts, all of which have had tangible effects on the members of our community. After years of service, Atwater Dining Hall is closing its doors, and the Grille and Midd Xpress have been forced to trim their hours. Recently, the time-honored traditions of Winter Carnival and J-Term have come under pressure as the College reassesses its budgetary priorities.

At times like these, it is up to us, the student body, to ensure that our community remains vibrant, balanced, and strong.

Over the course of the past year, I have worked with current SGA members to devise realistic policies that address the most pressing needs of Middkids, with an eye to the future.

If elected, I will ensure that the SGA focuses its agenda on preserving our oldest traditions, while making room for the new. I will use technology to bring the SGA into the 21st century with the aim of making it more accessible to the student body and more adaptable to your schedules; in this way, students will be more aware of the SGA’s progress, and freer to participate in the decision-making process. Moreover, I will implement all of this without causing the College any additional budgetary strain.

Those of you who know me are aware that I do not make empty promises, and I get things done. If elected President, I will take advantage of additional credit afforded to me by my past work, which will allow me to take three classes in Fall ’09, and if necessary, I will do the same in Spring’10. For this reason, I will be able to give my position the attention it truly deserves and make the changes that are needed, while seeing Bobby Joe's initiatives (ie. campus-wide wireless access) through to their completion.

Please feel free to read about my policies in detail, or simply watch this video to hear the basics of my platform. If you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to send me an email from the contact page.

Thanks again for your time, and I look forward to seeing you all again very soon.

Best,

Nick Alexander
